Meet Kani. That’s K is for Kani. Her real name might be Connie, but she’s best known as Kani due to her popular blog and her rise to fame as one of LookBook.nu’s Top 25 karma gainers! Amazing.
And it’s not hard to see why. She’s got an absolutely gorgeous sense of style. It’s cute, quirky and always has a touch of vintage about it. We were very excited to get Kani on board as the next blogger in our 5 Ways to Wear project – and when we received her snaps, we fell in love even more. It’s one of our favourite submissions for the project to date.
From Victoria, Kani is a second year Commerce/Law student, currently completing her major in marketing (and loving it!).
Kani told us that her absolute dream would be to work full time in doing something she dearly loves – such as designing and selling her creations and vintage pieces, as well as working as a stylist and fashion blogger! She’s definitely getting there – you just need to check out her websites to see what she’s up to. Her K is for Kani blog has been running for just over a year and half and is a way for her to showcase her sense of style and her creations. Her handmade hair accessories are also available to purchase online at our favourite crafty store, Etsy, as well as selling her vintage pieces on Vintage with Kani… a busy girl indeed!
In terms of style, it’s not hard to see that Kani is heavily influenced by vintage and handmade pieces. She has a great knack of mixing quirky prints, materials and textures with on-trend pieces and basics. She told us that the outfit that best describes her style would be “…a hat or headband, a dress or something high-waisted and an oversized cardigan on top.”
When we spoke to Kani about getting involved in our 5 Ways to Wear project, it was like perfect timing. When she told us that her favourite type of shoes to wear were platform wedges for their height and comfort factor, we quickly thought of a few options that have just dropped into store from our exciting Spring Summer 11/12 collection and these were the results.
Kani selected our 70’s inspired, nude coloured, cork platform wedge Sunrise that also forms part of our leather collection for the season. A perfect choice to really showcase Kani’s vintage style.
Also available in Black and Tan, our Sunrise wedge is now available in-store and online for $119.99.
In terms of inspiration, Kani told us that she continually looks to nature, her surroundings and people. “It might sound strange but sometimes I see a beautiful flower bush or something and it inspires me to want to find something in a similar print. Or I might see a fence and the structure of it inspires me to create something with similar features. People in general also inspire me – people spotting, people on the street… it all inspires me to try new things.”
Kani also told us that she’s a little bit of a greenie mixed with a bit of hoarder. She hates throwing things out and can always think of ways to reuse bits and pieces, living by the reduce, reuse, recycle mantra where she can.
Thank you Kani for sharing your love of vintage with us – we loved having you join our little crew of 5 Ways to Wearers. Join us and follow Kani’s blog to see where her style takes her next.
Until next time…
